Academic Training - two seminars, one case presentation, one journal club and one rehab clinic ( a quick presentation of all the cases admitted that week) per week. But the quality of these programs are questionable as the input and participation of faculty is inadequate.
Clinical exposure - 60 bedded IP ward and daily OPD count of about 130. But the variety is very less. Main focus on SCI, spinal dysraphisms, amputations , and neuropathic ulcers. Exposure to stroke is very poor.
Interventional hands on training - two units in department has huge difference in exposure. One unit trains their residents so much in depth that most of the JRs are able to do all the procedures independently. But other unit doesn't provide much meaningful hands on training or clinical decision making experience. So it's a bit on the luck of candidate which unit they are alloted to.
Work life balance - stipend 117000( for first year including TDS). Lack of a proper team is a big concern. No OT,PT,SLP or psychologist support for IP patients. With 60beds and 4 JRs per batch, it is next to impossible to provide quality care to patients. Extremely hard working residents produce great results with patients ( at the expense of personal life).
Lack of guidance in research activities is another caveat of the department.

Overall verdict - High workload, High academic exposure with low guidance to navigate academics and research.

Bond - compulsory 2 years with a salary of 1.37L/m. Can be posted anywhere across UP through an allotment process. Mostly you'll be able to get in big institutions in Lucknow itself due to less number of candidates.

This is a very good medical college for MD PMR, with highly experienced faculty and four consultants actively involved in teaching and clinical training. There are daily seminars and exposure to a wide variety of patients, particularly in pain management.

The department has excellent exposure to interventional pain procedures, with almost all major pain-related procedures being performed. The clinical workload is substantial, with approximately 200 OPD patients per day, 800 admissions per year, and 30–40 procedures per day. Residents also get exposure through rotational OPD and rotational procedure days, which provides good clinical and procedural experience.

Academically, the department is strong, but residents need to be highly self-motivated and willing to dedicate themselves to learning. One area that could be improved is the rotation of residents among different consultants, as greater rotation would provide broader exposure to different clinical approaches and techniques.

The department follows strict timings, so residents are expected to be punctual and present in the hospital on time. Overall, it is an excellent place for someone who is serious about PMR, particularly if they are interested in pain management and interventional procedures and are prepared to actively utilize the available learning opportunities.

Neuro Rehab Exposure is good, acute rehab cases handling, HDU rehab, One of the very few institutions which offer this. Less hands on in USG/ procedures. Work can get really hectic. Awareness about PMR is good in the institution.

Amazing exposure to patients; can learn the surgical mindset and core rehab well.
Faculty prefer to ask lots of questions and expect you to be ready with the answers; which is a little challenign considering time constraints and difficulty of topics.
Dr Amit Mhambre, the HOD is one of the most important people there who will shape your education in the overall residency programme.
IF you get to work well, and the workload is good; this PMR residency is one of the most robust in India because of the rich experience it gives.
Nowadays, there are 4 residents per year with 3 senior residents; as compred to 2 residents per year. THis likely makes the work life balance and academics much more balanced.
Central government pay for JRs, and minimal fees.

Case variety - spinal cord injury, cerebral palsy, stroke, CTEV, acute severe back pain, TBI, spina bifida, haemophilia, amputee rehab.
1st year can get hectic, with lots of acute rehab cases.
